A1. The English government was in competition with other European countries, such as Spain and France, for supreme authority. Each nation wanted to increase their political influence on world affairs. Political rivalries were a running push to colonize and increase English imperialism. As the other nations began to sail west, North America was discovered and England watched as Spain began to proliferate, leaving a social pressure on England to make a foothold in this new land, and prosper as well. England would soon begin attacking Spanish ships returning from the new world and take their gold and silver.
