Introduction -

"M.R. Jones (1955) defined motivation as what starts behavior, what maintains behavior, and what stops behavior" (as cited in Baack, 2012, p. 99). Motivation within the workplace is important in order to improve employee morale and boost productivity. In order to promote high levels of motivation in the workplace, managers must understand certain factors that affect motivation both from a management perspective as well as an employee's perspective (Baack, 2012).
