Vaccinations If an HIV vaccine could save 1.5 million deaths each year yet could cause up to 50 deaths then yes, it should absolutely be used. If the same vaccine could cause up to 1,000 deaths each year then no, it should not be used. 50 deaths are an extremely miniscule risk rate while 1.5 million lives saved is an enormous benefit rate and therefore is perfectly acceptable. However, when the deaths caused from the vaccine increases to 1,000 or higher that no longer is a miniscule risk rate and is no longer an acceptable trade-off for the still enormous benefit rate.
