The Health Belief Model (HBM) is a model that attempts to explain and predict health behaviors in individuals. This is done by focusing on the attitudes and beliefs of individuals. As nurses, we can try to explore the attitude and belief that an individual may have towards their health care and from there be able to further explain or correct their beliefs they may have. A way that I do this daily in my profession (correctional nursing) is explain to the inmates that there are a lot of other individuals with MRSA and Hep C on the yard.
