Part A. The development of the First Party System can be traced back to as early as 1792. Thomas Jefferson and James Madison were largely against a centralized government and felt that policies pushed by Alexander Hamilton and John Adams favored the wealthy and threatened the agriculture states. The began calling themselves Democratic Republicans while Hamilton and his supporters called themselves Federalists to link the group to the Constitution.
