Task 2, Part C Evangelistic Abolitionist, William Lloyd Garrison started the American Antislavery Society and to push the agenda that slavery was a sin that needed to end. The society grew over time and at its peak had over 300,000 members. Members would spread the word with a newspaper and go campaigning for antislavery petitions. The immediatists, a group of people led by Garrison; believed that people determined their spiritual fate through acts or good or evil. The immediate ending of slavery could result in the return of Christ. African American abolitionist such as Frederick Douglas and Harriet Tubman continued to fight to end slavery through a secret network known as the Underground Railroad. (Norton, 2015)
