C203: Becoming an Effective Leader, Task 1 Abstract The purpose of this paper is to examine the evolution of the behaviors and roles assumed by Trevor Smith while he worked as an officer and eventually as a commander at the Lexington-Fayette Urban County Detention Center. The metro jail in the heart of the Bluegrass state and houses 1400 inmates in a maximum-security setting. Those inmates have committed every crime imaginable and are housed in 20 units which each hold up to 120 people. The jail is staffed by more than 200 officers, dozens of medical staff, and dozens of administrators.
