The concept of streams is a great way to describe the different actions of activists within a social movement. Munson describes this best when he discusses the choices people make when displaying their personal opinion on an issue. One of the streams Munson proposes is the direct-action stream. This stream describes the activities of activists who typically demonstrate by protesting, and in the pro-life movement, perform rescues and sidewalk counseling. Rescues refer to the actual attempt to physically prevent a woman from reaching an abortion clinic through a blockade set up by several activists.
