I think that if you look at the problem of obesity through the sociological lens, it is very easy to see how it could be categorized as a social problem. Every day, on my way to work, I am surrounded on both sides of the road by fast food restaurants with drive-thru windows and promises of healthy choices. Even though it is the individual's choice to go to these places, in many cases it one of the only choices they have. Using my life as an example, I work ten hour days on base and my wife works twelve hour shifts at the hospital. So by the time I pick my son up from daycare, attempt to make diner, get him settled down, and finish homework, there is no room left to make lunch for the next day which forces me to go to other venues.
