There are many different types of family. Family is something that everyone has on some level. The nuclear family consists of a mother, father and children. The extended family consists of grandparents, aunts, uncles and cousins. In the United States, there has been an overall break-down of the traditional family. There are a lot of single parent households. We, as a society, are not placing family as important as we used to. I think the breakdown of the family is contributing to the breakdown of society. In this paper I will lay out three sociological theories; conflict theory, functionalism theory and social interaction theory, as they apply to family.
