Saguaro National park is located in the diverse Sonoran Desert of Arizona. The Sonoran Desert xeric scrub biome contains the largest diversity of plant life of any desert in the world. 560 plant species are able to live in this tough desert environment. High temperatures during the summer can remain at 100 or more degrees daily for as long as 90 days. Because deserts like this one experience such extremes of heat and dryness they are considered to be amongst the most fragile of ecosystems. The winters are mild and can even reach freezing.
