What does it really mean when a person uses the term "gender identity"? The first couple of thoughts that come to mind are; a person's anatomic sex, how a person may perceive themselves, (or a male feeling like a female in a male's body). The term "gender identity" is "[our psychological awareness or sense of being male or being female and one of the most obvious and important aspects of our self-concepts.]" (Rathus, S. A., Nevid, J.S., and Fichner-Rathus, L. 2005).
