The theory that has resonated with me is the self-care deficit model by Dorothea Orem. I work as a telephonic nurse advocate for an insurance company. Many of the patients that are calling in need help in order to receive needed treatment. As a nurse advocate I am responsible to assess the patients needs. These patients need help with many things such as: financial assistance, denied medication or treatment, navigating and understand insurance benefits, transportation, prior authorization just to name a few.
