It is for this reason that nurses must be very aware of how they practice, and if it aligns with the ideals set upon the profession by the public. Being a nurse often requires working under high pressure, high-stress situations. The extraordinary circumstances that surround patient care can sometimes make it difficult for nurses to focus on their true purpose. Skewed intentions may cause us to lose our way and fail to provide care to our patients in the way we intend. For this reason, it is essential for nurses to practice self-awareness, self-reflection, and mindfulness to maintain integrity in our profession.
