Psychiatric Drugs Are psychiatric drugs beneficial for (or detrimental to) long term mental health? Psychiatric drugs can be detrimental are beneficial but in the long term can be detrimental. The benefits of psychiatric drugs have been exaggerated and the harms are underplayed. This is an argument that is discussed between many Mental Health professionals. With some psychiatric drugs it can cause more trauma and make a patient worse which can lead to Drug Stress Trauma Syndrome (DSTS).
