Nursing quality indicators are used to identify areas in need of improvement and guide care towards safe, patient centered care, free from patient harm.  Being mindful of patient harms and of nursing quality indicators can help prevent patient harms improve care for the patient as well as satisfaction for nursing staff. In the case of Mr. J, he experienced many patient harms that could have been prevented through use of quality indicators such as pressure ulcer prevention, restraint use and alternatives for fall prevention, and patient satisfaction.
