1. Define the following terms:

a. Preterm premature rupture of membranes (PPROM)- Amniotic membrane rupture before labor begins. Labor usually begins spontaneously within 24 hours of membrane rupture

b. Fetal Fibrinectin- protein present in fetal tissues and normally found in cervical and vaginal secretions until 16-20 weeks of gestation and again at or near term. A positive test during med-pregnancy may identify risk for preterm labor.

c. Cervical insufficiency (incompetent cervix)- painless cervical effacement and dilatation that is not associated with contractions and usually occurs in the second trimester, resulting in spontaneous abortion or very preterm birth.
