Two NCTM standards related to the contents studied during this week #2 are:

a) Data Analysis and Probability Standards for Grades 6-8. The following are some of the expectations associated with this standard:

understand and use appropriate terminology to describe complementary and mutually exclusive events;

use proportionality and a basic understanding of probability to make and test conjectures about the results of experiments and simulations.

These two expectations are illustrated in several problems in the checkpoint. For example, the concepts of complementary and mutually exclusive events are applied to solve problems #32 and #36 in section 9.1. Likewise, a basic understanding of probability is needed to set-up and solve problem #26 in section 9.2.
