I think the most tense and compelling moment from "A Raisin in the Sun," was when Walter discovered that Willy had run off with his investment money. The tone of the drama went from a somewhat serene and happy family, ready to move into a "real" house, to complete despair and anger. Walter screamed out, "That money is made from my father's flesh!" The tension increased as the rest of the family learned that Walter had given Willy all of the remaining 6500 from the insurance check, including Beneatha's college money, only to find that Willy took the money and ran. Everyone in the family was furious at Walter, and his own mother began to hit him in the face.
The author used tone, as I mentioned above, to create a scene of incredible anger, disappointment, and frustration....
