I think the story The House on Mango Street is a small reflection of the way Sandra Cisneros felt about her own life. Her frequent movement from one house to another, and one country to another, probably left her feeling somewhat lost in life. As the daughter of a Mexican and a mexican American, she may have felt that her home was in both countries, as well as neither country. Upon reaching college, she felt even more alienated as her classmates were from the best schools in the country,but she was from the public school systems. I like the way she wrote, "They had been bred as fine hothouse flowers. I was a yellow weed among the city's cracks."
