The behavior approach began in the 1950s and focused on the day-to-day actions of the manager, rather than focusing on the leader's personal characteristics. Over the last 60 years, many studies have researched how effective leaders differ in behavior from ineffective leaders. A questionnaire titled the leader behavior description questionnaire (LBDQ) was developed and measured two basic aspects of leadership: task orientation and relationship orientation.
