The Future of Nursing The Institute of Medicine (IOM) released an all-inclusive report in 2010 on the future needs of the nursing profession. The report came to be a two-year study in response to the necessary evaluation and continuous transformation of the nursing field. An interdisciplinary committee was put together to report the national topics that impact health care. Recommendations were presented by the IOM in a way to improve and revamp the nursing profession to fit the future needs of the medical field as a whole.
