The social web was first designed with the intention of just having a fun way to interact with friends and family over the Internet. Over the years, it has grown into one of the most popular forms of social interaction. This paper will discuss the past history of the social web, as well as the most popular sites of the present, including Facebook, Twitter, MySpace, YouTube, and Friendster. I will show the pros and cons of social networking with facts and information I have obtained through research.
