Many believe it was Christopher Columbus, an Italian explorer, that discovered the United States of America back in 1492. However, there are also claims that someone else might have discovered this country about five hundred years before Columbus ever set foot on this land. That person is Leif Ericson, an explorer from Iceland. Ericson was a Viking that sailed with his crew of man to North America, it is even believed that him and his crew spent the winter before their departure back to Greenland.
