If you have read the book or seen the movie, "The Help" you can see a lot of what life was like before and during the Civil Rights Movement. Where do you see racial and ethnic equality today? (Ex., Try to imagine yourself on an airplane with a group of five or six young Middle Eastern men.) Do you think racism is as abundant today as 50-75 years ago?
SAMPLE:
Racism has remained a large issue in our country for many generations for many ethnic minority groups whether it be African Americans, Hispanics, or smaller ethnic groups. While the racial issues which existed 50 years ago were perhaps different from today, we still face very serious forms of racism whether it be in our media, in our neighborhoods, or in our schools. The movie "The Help" displayed racism which existed during the Civil Rights era exposing shocking examples of how African Americans were once treated in the 1960s.
