Roman Catholicism is one of the three major branches of Christianity; Eastern Orthodox and Protestantism being the other two which are somewhat similar. Roman Catholicism is the largest Christian group that has become a unique branch which has its own set of beliefs, practices and organization. Roman Catholics are mostly of the Latin customs, who accept the authority of the bishop of Rome, the pope. The term catholic means "universal" and Roman Catholics are often referred to simply as Catholics.
