types are the commercial health insurance industry, Blue cross and Blue shield plans and

Health Maintenance Organizations. With the commercial health insurance industry there

are two distinctions, which are between mutual and stock insurers. Mutual insurance

companies, are essentially owned by their policyholders, in contrast to stock insurance

companies, which are owned in the more traditional corporate fashion by stockholders.

Commercial health insurance companies are either "multiline" carriers or "single -line"
