External Effects on Workplace Health and Safety

A person's effectiveness in the workplace can be directly affected by personal factors from the individual's life. Bohlander & Snell (2007) place these factors into two categories, physical and mental. While a person's physical factors can affect what jobs he or she will be able to perform, mental factors can play a large role in how well the employee performs his or her job duties. An employer must account for both physical and mental factors of an employee's wellbeing to maintain a productive work environment. (Bohlander & Snell, 2007).
