While looking at examples from the Whitney collection of some artworks of in twentieth century I see new forms of Realism, abstract art, historically inspired work, drastic sculptures, and painting telling stories. It seems to me that the art of the twentieth century is a combination of all the art previous to its time, just with its own modern twist. In John Coplans, Self Portrait (Interlocking fingers, No. 18), I see a sense of realism. Not in the way of the nineteenth century. It does show a person or a group of people in everyday life.
