The topic of illness is perceived differently in every culture. Some feel that illness is something only for weak people. Spiritual harmony is also important in many cultures. As a health care worker it is important to understand different cultures so proper health care can be administered. In American society it is the spiritual aspects of health care if often overlooked in fear of offending people of other faiths. This is not the proper way to care for patients as often a lack of knowledge can cause more damage than good. Having a full understanding of cultures and different beliefs on how illnesses are contracted can help achieve a positive outcome.
