Process promotes health communication by finding out the circumstances surrounding the incident, such as a list of questions to ask the doctor, or treatments used before and after a diagnosis. If process wasn't used then there could be a chance for miss diagnosis or not having a clear understanding or treatment.

Personal goals are when caregivers and patients are involved, and both parties are trying to reach the goal of understanding to restore the health of the patient or emotional support. If personal goals are not met a patient and caregiver could get discouraged with the care they are giving or receiving and the process to get healthy could take longer.
