Without ambulatory care hospitals would be overloaded with patients who do not have emergency needs. With all the patients the waiting time to see a doctor would be outrageous also.
Ambulatory care has changed society's views on health care. It is now easier to see a doctor and have a shorter waiting time. Also, individuals can now see a doctor in the particular field they need. If people have heart problems they can go visit a cardiologist for monthly appointments instead of sitting in a hospital waiting room for hours to see the same doctor.
