Desire affects everyone everywhere in many different ways. Some people are simply better at hiding and burying their feelings of desire than others are. Dan Brown, author of The Da Vinci Code, said "Men go to far greater lengths to avoid what they fear than to obtain what they desire" (Goodreads Inc., 2013). He was right - is right. People will go through thick and thin to avoid rejection from a crush rather than to admit to the person that they are the object of their affections.

Fighting one's desires is very difficult, especially if the society that one lives in does not allow any public displays of affection. When the society one lives in forces people to live based upon decorum, it becomes more difficult to fight one's desires. The most difficult type of desire is that of romantic love. When one is overcome with consuming desire for someone else, it is difficult to hide it from society or the person himself or herself.
