An associates degree in nursing (ADN) has been acceptable for many decades, but recent research shows a nurse with BSN degree is capable of handling the high demands of the profession. To become a registered nurse many options are available, from a diploma, 2-year associates degree, or 4 year bachelor degree. Upon completion, each new graduate needs to take and pass the National Council State Board of Nursing test. The test does not distinguish differences in graduates, or knowledge and skills developed through baccalaureate program. (AACN, 2014)
