Phonics and Phonic Awareness
Phonics is the relationship between sounds and their spellings. It helps children understand the relationships between letters and individual sounds (Gibson & Gold, 2002). Phonic awareness, on the other hand, involves the relationship between sounds in spoken words (Blevins, n.d.). Both Phonics and Phonic Awareness are important for a student to learn to read.
