EDD 733 Educational Assessment ACT and WIDA
**ESSAY EXCERPT***
Educational assessment is a process used in schools to determine a student's knowledge, understanding, and skills in measurable terms (Popham, 2006). Where assessment was once only used to see if a student had learned a given objective at the end of a unit or course, today educational assessment is used to measure the substance of schools, teacher, and students. Many schools now require students to pass state tests or other forms of assessment in order to graduate. Colleges also require certain scores on the Scholastic Aptitude Test (SAT) or American College Test (ACT) to be accepted into their school. Another form of assessment that has grown in the past decade is the World- Class Instructional Design and Assessment (WIDA). Two forms of assessment widely used in the Pascagoula School District are the ACT and the WIDA. With so much importance placed on student's results from these two tests, the purpose, role, and reliability should be looked at thoroughly.
