PTSD: Post Traumatic Stress Disorder
PTSD or Post Traumatic Stress Disorder is a psychiatric disorder that can occur following the experience or witnessing of life-threatening events such as military combat, natural disasters, terrorist incidents and serious accidents, of physical or sexual assault in adult or childhood. (Nebraska Veterans Affairs, 2007) Typically the symptoms of PTSD include nightmares, flashbacks, difficulty sleeping, a feeling of detachment, and becoming estranged from others. Post -Trauma symptoms typically start within three months of an event.
