I. Introduction

 The correctional system in America is designed to house many law violators. Some of these people have committed non-violent crimes, but others have been convicted of some of the worst crimes against humanity. Through the years, the correctional system has changed dramatically in the administration of many institutions. Today, America's correctional institutions are facing numerous challenges and issues. Some of the major issues that exist in the corrections system are overcrowding, violence, and gangs.
