COMM 315 Stepping Outside My World Analysis

**HERE IS A SAMPLE OF THE ESSAY***

The activity chosen to analyze the world outside my world is putting me in a wheelchair to learn how a wheelchair bound person feels and public reaction toward the individual.

The place chosen was a mall because of the diversity of people walking around.

I observed that people generally glanced and stared, but mostly I did not want people to pity me but treat me as everyone else. This is interesting - you really had the opportunity to reflect on yourself and your limitations in the wheel chair; this gives you the perspective of a person in the chair.

What I found surprising about the wheelchair experience was how self conscious I was about how people were looking at me. Also I was surprised how helpful people were to hold the door for me and allowed the right of way to the person in the wheelchair.

I felt very uncomfortable because it was out of my normal environment and was very self conscious about what other people were thinking about. Most of all I was very uncomfortable with not able to do things with my two legs.
