The differences in format between the memo and the academic paper are that the academic paper has margins on the left and right side of the page, and the memo only has a margin on the left side. The academic paper also has a title page and page numbers which the memo does not. I have also noticed that the memo is not double spaced like the academic paper and the paragraphs are not indented, academic papers should be indented 5 spaces. Much of the words in the memo are bold and should be used sparingly in academic writing. When writing in academic form the audience, purpose, tone, and structure are much difference than the memo.
