An example of a state prison system would be the State Correctional Facility of Pittsburgh, historically referred to as West Penitentiary, in Pittsburgh, Pennsylvania. This facility was established in 1826. Typical housing is low and medium security inmates. The facility was remodeled in 2005, to accommodate modern technology, and growing prisoner population.
