The criminal justice system has organizational guidelines, like many other organizations. Though, police guidelines are different, due to having to follow the laws of the United States. "Policies, procedures, rules, and regulations are important for defining role expectations for all police officers" (Peak, 2012, Chapter 3). Looking at the big picture, there must be rules for all individuals to follow, this helps keep the peace and ensures justice is served to others who cause harm to themselves or others.
