Adjusting to Terrorism

September 11, 2001 marked the beginning of a nationwide war to be waged on terrorists. After both the twin towers and the pentagon were struck and countless numbers of lives lost, the Bush administration created Homeland Security in an attempt to counteract terrorism and protect the country. The Transportation Security Administration (TSA) is a department within Homeland Security and it addresses the security of the nation's transportation system. TSA officers handle more than a million pieces of luggage each year, scanning each of them thoroughly and finding anything that is a potential threat.
