Former Chief Justice and President of the United States from 1909 to 1913, William Howard Taft once stated "Presidents come and go, but the Supreme Court goes on forever." That statement currently remains to hold true. The first Supreme Court was called to assemble on February 1, 1790, at which time the powers and duties of the Supreme Court were established.
