In this paper, I will be describing the historical development of police agencies and their jurisdiction. I will be describing the local, state, and federal law enforcement agencies under the jurisdiction of the Department of Homeland Security and their responsibilities with regard to their primary purpose. When applying to the law enforcement agencies it means the geographical area over which the government they work for the legal authority (e.g.: Dallas PD cannot police in Cedar Hill they have to stay with their jurisdiction.
