There is a high stress level for nurses who work in Emergency Departments. The high acuity of patients and high patient volume repeatedly exposes nurses to stress and puts them at risk for compassion fatigue. As a previous ED technician and now currently an Admissions nurse in the ED, I have witnessed first-hand the amount of stress that takes a toll on nurses. As time goes on, this stress has the potential of turning into compassion fatigue. I believe it would be beneficial to implement a coping skill in order to address this problem of compassion fatigue.
