Professional Roles and Values Nursing Theory A nursing theory that has influenced my values and goals is Margaret Newmans theory of health and expanding consciousness was stimulated by concern for those for whom health, defined as the absence of disease or disability, is not possible (Cherry & Jacob, 2017). This theory helps me to include persons who do not have a chronic illness and shows me how all people fit together in life and how they have a greater meaning and understanding of life overall, not just connected to illness.
