Non-invasive cardiovascular imaging exams such as transthoracic echocardiograms are ordered for many in-patients or patients in the emergency department in addition to out-patient orders the business issue is to determine the historical high-volume days over a period of time. This information will allow leadership to staff the unit with more sonographers to cover ordered exams on the high-volume days. When ordered exams are completed within the set benchmarks this causes the patients length of stay to be decreased thus improving patient outcomes and the capture of larger insurance revenue.
