C155 Pathophysiology of Obesity A.1 Investigated Disease Process: OBESITY Obesity is a complex, but modifiable disorder, involving an excessive amount of body fat. Obesity is now believed to be more than environmental issues and cosmetic issues. Scientists and geneticists are working to examine the interactions of hormones and genes to gain a better understanding of the genetic and molecular basis of obesity. A Body Mass Index (BMI) of 30 or higher is indicative of obesity. BMI is calculated by dividing weight in kilograms (kg) by height in meters (m) squared.
