C121 Task 1 A. In the 17th century the English decided to colonize to North America for political and social reasons. In 1492 Columbus was able to convince the king and queen of Spain to finance his voyage to find a rout to China, and India. He wanted to make this voyage because he believed he would find an abundance of gold and spices. The Spaniards who followed him on this voyage found gold and silver in Central and South America, which the ended-up shipping back to Spain. This caused Spain to become the riches nation in Europe.
